Fifty Shades of Grey...My opinion as a Kinkster

I recently posted the following opinion/rant on the site Lesbotronic. I thought I would share it here too. However, before I get to the actual post I want to give a little background.  I have been a member of the kink underworld for several years now. I'm by no means an expert so please do not take my words as gospel. I am just a woman with an opinion. Now that my little disclaimer is finished here is the post.

*********

I have read the book and seen the movie. Personally, I found them to be quite a farce. Yes, I admit to being heavily biased. The way Christian Grey behaved mirrored my own experience as a first time submissive to a male. Lots of things screamed abuse to me.

That aside, the naivete portrayed by Anastasia was heartbreaking. In my opinion, had she been taught things like SSC or Safe, Sane and Consensual and RACK aka Risk Aware Consensual Kink and knew that those go hand in hand; she wouldn't have let Christian that close.

I feel that had E.L James done some actual research into the lifestyle and portrayed it accurately the influx of new members sites like Fetlife™ have coming in due to having read watched 50SOG wouldn't have so many misconceptions that need to be corrected.

Not to mention the fact that the writing itself left much to be desired. Granted my own writing is far from perfect but I do think I have a decent grasp of structure and flow. Did this series even get seen by an editor?  The amount of redundancy in one book alone made me dizzy.

Seriously Grey, just how many times was it necessary to announce unceremoniously that Ana was yours? Don't even get me started on the fact that in chapter eight you claimed her before she had even been given a contract. Not at all how this is supposed to work buddy.

A good Dom is gentle at first. He doesn't ram into a prospective sub the first time they are intimate when he knows she is a virgin. What, did you think a bit of fingering would be enough to make it easy? Wrong. She was going to be hurting. That whole bit about you wanting her to hurt just adds insult to injury.

Also, why the actual hell do you insist that she's yours just because she caves and let's you hit it? Honestly you should have left it to her to decide if she wanted to explore further. Even if you could tell she was attracted to you! God I can't even begin to explain just how wrong that was.

Anyway, these are my thoughts on the subject. The last four paragraphs are unique to this post as they were not part of the original post on Lesbotronic™. Feel free to agree or defend the story as you see fit. If you disagree please do so respectfully. I have tried to be respectful here.

As always, Ivy

An Apology and A New Direction

Firstly, allow me to apologize for my long, unannounced hiatus. I am truly sorry for that but I am going to do my best to post as often as I am able from now on.

Lots of things have happened in the past couple of years that I may delve into that stuff on later posts.  I will be taking this blog in a slightly different direction than originally intended.

Don't worry too much though, there will still be plenty of talk about brilliant writings but things are also going to become more personal.

It is very likely that there will be some posts that don't sit well with others due to their more adult/lifestyle oriented nature. You have been forewarned. That is all for now.
